Boldmere St. Michaels 2-1 Worcester City Women FC

WCWFC Starting 11

In a tense match against Boldmere St. Michaels, Worcester City Women were unlucky to come away from The Amber Arena and Community Stadium without points to their name.

After a fair start for both teams, an early goal from Boldmere in the third minute gave the Mikes their early lead. However, City’s heads didn’t drop and carried on building momentum and finding their feet in the final third.

A physical and demanding game made for a great battle for Worcester's amazing away fans who rallied in support all game for City. Despite chances up front with the purple side’s attacking movement looking very positive and coming out on top of many 1v1 duels, we couldn't quite connect to level with Boldmere.

After City dominated possession in their final third, their efforts paid off. In the 44th minute, Evie Billingsley drew us level against her former club just before halftime, scoring her first for City. This came following City’s high press, which forced mistakes from Boldmere, leaving them vulnerable in front of the goal for Billingsley to slide it down the centre.

Against the turn of play, Boldmere regained their lead in injury time following a pause in play which allowed time for the Mikes to reset everything just before the whistle and regain their lead.

City came out of the blocks strong and continued to fight forward but couldn’t break through Boldmere’s defence to hit the back of the net despite their best efforts. In the 69th minute, City went down to 10 players after Beth Marriott saw a second yellow. The West-Midlands outfit carried on regardless but unfortunately, despite a great performance overall, Boldmere held onto their lead.

We now have a couple of weeks to build on the momentum from today and continue to fight for eachother which was evident in today’s game. Next week, we are away to Lincoln United who sits a place above us before coming home to Sixways on Wednesday the 12th of February, we really need our 12th player there and would love to see your support as we face a crucial fixture.
