Lincoln United 4-2 WCWFC
City fell to a disappointing defeat in blustery conditions away to Lincoln United.
Lincoln took the lead after 5 minutes after a hopeful long-shot flew into the top corner. City grew into the game and had their first real chance on goal after 15 minutes when Highway shot after her own corner was blocked and fell back to her feet. Despite City’s possession, United looked dangerous on the break and City’s goalkeeper Bridgwater kept the scoreline to just 1 nil.
City got their goal on 42 minutes when teenager Keeley Crew scored a fantastic goal from 20 yards, with her shot going over the ‘Keepers head into the back of the net, much to the delight of the traveling City fans.
However, the celebrations were short lived. United took the lead seconds before the half time whistle when City failed to clear a corner and the ball was rifled into the net.
City came out for the second half hoping to dominate but conceded from an early United corner. As Worcester pushed forward searching to get back into the game, United looked dangerous on the break. In the 72nd minute Lincoln got their 4th from another set piece, which was headed in after a great delivery.
City’s substitutes made a positive impact, with 20 year old Kaye Haggett making her National League debut in the middle of the park. Captain Jess Fassnidge pulled one back for City on 77 minutes when she was first to react to the ‘Keeper’s save after Haggett’s shot. Baldwin’s clever pull back to Haggett on the top of the box was well saved by the Lincoln Goalkeeper but Fassnidge was there to tap home to make it 4-2.
Despite City pushing forward for the remainder of the game, Lincoln defended well and stood firm to see the game out.
