Engagement Event to Tackle Girls' Football Dropout Rates for 15 to 17-Year-Olds in Worcestershire

Worcester City Women FC is pleased to announce a partnership with Talent Pathway Solutions to support the development of girls' football across Worcestershire. To kickstart this initiative, we are inviting key stakeholders to join us for an interactive afternoon on Sunday 6th October 2024, at Sixways Stadium.

This afternoon engagement event focuses on girls’ football within the 15 to 17-year-old age group, which has faced significant challenges in Worcestershire, including the folding of teams due to a lack of local league options. As a result, many players have had to travel outside the county to continue playing or have been left with limited opportunities.

We aim to bring together the local football community to inspire positive change. Starting at 12:00pm, this event will include grassroots clubs, sports organisations, and girls aged 15 to 17 who are either still playing or have recently stepped away from football. Our goal is to engage with stakeholders to strengthen the local ecosystem and develop a sustainable talent pathway for the future.

  • 12:30pm: Two interactive workshops:

    • Workshop for Players: Players aged 15 to 17 will join a workshop with current WCWFC players discussing passion for football, what keeps them engaged, and the opportunities available both on and off the pitch.

    • Workshop for Organisers: Grassroots clubs and sports organisations working with girls aged 15 to 17 will explore challenges and brainstorm solutions to improve retention and opportunities in local girls' football.

The insights gathered from these workshops will be used to shape the future of girls' football in Worcestershire.

A Positive Future for Girls’ Football in Worcestershire

Working closely with Worcestershire FA and local councils, we’re committed to identifying and supporting those who will benefit most from this initiative. This event is just the first step, there will be other engagement opportunities for clubs and organisations working with younger age groups in the future. Together, we aim to ensure young female footballers have the development opportunities they need to thrive. This event is part of our club’s broader commitment to advancing women’s and girls' football at all levels, and we look forward to future partnerships with grassroots teams across the region.

We are thrilled to be collaborating with Chris Gould, founder of Talent Pathway Solutions, to help lead this mission. Chris has extensive experience in talent development, having worked with Birmingham City Regional Talent Centre and Tottenham Hotspur Women as the Girls' Talent Pathway Manager. His expertise will be instrumental in building a robust talent pathway for girls’ football in Worcestershire.

We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting event and building a brighter future for women’s football in the county!
