Lincoln City 0-4 WCWFC

Worcester City walked away from Lincoln with a 4-0 win against Lincoln City, with City’s captain scoring a brace and goals from Leah Ritson and Keeley Crew.

Inside the first ten minutes, City got off on the front foot, with City’s frontline focused on getting an early effort towards the goal. City continued trying to find outlets across the pitch but couldn’t quite find the final connection in the final third.

However, in the 17th minute, Jess Fassnidge broke the deadlock and got City’s first. A mistake from Lincoln’s keeper left them vulnerable and, after coming out to save a shot from Annie Highway on the left, spilt the catch for City’s captain to poke it past her and into the left corner.

Just three minutes after her first, Fassnidge scored herself a brace with Leah Ritson feeding her on the left, leaving City’s number seven to strike it into the net. Towards the end of the first half, though, Lincoln had settled into their defence, making it harder for City to penetrate.

In the second half, City continued to build on how they left things in the first half and in the 58th minute, Ritson made a great strike from inside the box to hit down the centre of the net after being fed through by Highway.

City’s fourth and final came from City’s number 16, Keeley Crew, after coming on as a game-changer. In the 82nd minute, after a persistent press from Crew, Lincoln’s number one came out from her net to try and stop Crew from getting a shot away, but Crew managed to get past and drill it into the open goal.

We have a big game away next week against West Bromwich in the FA Cup that’s not too far away from home. If you can make it, we’d love to see as many of you there as possible.
