WCWFC 1-2 Kidderminster Harriers

WCWFC Starting 11

On Sunday, Worcester City Women bowed out of the Worcestershire FA County Cup after a second-half fightback from Kidderminster Harriers at Sixways Stadium.

Worcester City Women took the lead in the opening stages of the game after Annie Sime was fouled around 35 yards from goal and Annie Highway made no mistake in taking advantage of the resulting free kick with an unstoppable finish.

Eight minutes later, Sime had a run at the Harriers defence and played in Keeley Crew whose effort was comfortably saved by the keeper.

Just before the half-hour mark, the visitors tested City keeper Kirsty Bridgwater twice in a matter of minutes, but Bridgwater tipped both efforts around the post.

A few minutes later, Harriers almost were on level terms after a shot from distance hit the post.

In the 40th minute, a Highway corner was met by Crew, but she couldn’t get the pace on the ball to trouble the Harriers keeper.

Moments later, a ball was flicked to the back post, but the Harriers striker's effort went across the face of goal and was cleared by City’s defence.

Early into the second half, Bridgwater made a comfortable save to deny Harriers, however, a couple of minutes later the visitors drew level through a free kick of their own from distance.

Shortly after, Harriers took the lead after a ball was played in behind and was squared to the back post for the striker to tap home.

City struggled to carve out any openings throughout the second half against a resolute Harriers outfit.

Next up for Worcester City Women is a return to league action as we welcome Sutton Coldfield Town Women to Sixways Stadium on Sunday 23rd March with kick-off scheduled for 2 pm. Get your tickets below, we’d love to see you there as we turn our focus back on our final games of the season.
