Match Preview | WCWFC VS Sutton Coldfield Town
On Sunday, Worcester City Women return to league action as the Royals visit Sixways Stadium in the penultimate home game of the season.
Last Time Out
Worcester City Women bowed out of the County Cup last Sunday after Kidderminster Harriers came away with a 2-1 win thanks to a second-half fightback.
Annie Highway opened the scoring for City with an outrageous free kick a few minutes into the game. Still, City struggled to create chances, and two second-half goals from the Harriers punished them as the visitors advanced to the final.
Sutton Coldfield comes to us after succumbing to a 3-2 defeat a fortnight ago at the Domino’s Arena, courtesy of 3rd-placed Peterborough United.
Previous Meeting
Back in October, the two sides played out a pulsating 3-3 draw at the Domino’s Arena.
The Royals went into the break two goals to the good thanks to strikes from Eva Cassidy and Chloe Finn.
Leah Ritson pulled a goal back in the 65th minute for City to spark a goal flurry. Five minutes later Niamh Deasy restored the hosts two goal advantage, but two goals in five minutes from Olivia Mitcham secured a hard-earned point for the visitors.
This Season
Worcester City Women currently sit in 10th place in the National League table on nine points; meanwhile, the Royals sit two places above them in 8th place on twenty-two points.
City knows that if they get the three points and Solihull Moors lose at Leafield Athletic on Sunday, they will secure National League football at Sixways Stadium for next season.
