Celebrating Three Years of Excellence and Empowerment on International Women's Day.
As owner and CEO of Worcester City Women FC for the last three years, I am proud to celebrate a triumphant journey as one of the few female-owned football clubs. With a commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and community engagement, the club has not only become successful on the field but has also made strides in transforming the landscape of women's football.
One of the keys to our success lies in our dedication to providing top-notch facilities for our players, highlighted by our move to Sixways Stadium for the start of the 23/24 season, boasting facilities that rival those of professional football clubs in the upper ends of the women’s football pyramid. We moved all our training to the University of Worcester, which has further elevated the team's performance and values, allowing all three teams to train from here and provided fantastic opportunities for students and staff to become involved in the club.
Our commitment to nurturing talent is evident in our structure, running three successful teams ranging from U18 to the First Team. This comprehensive approach ensures that players progress through the ranks, fostering a strong sense of unity and shared goals within the club. The U18 team serves as a breeding ground for future stars, while the First Team currently sits at the pinnacle of the West Midlands Regional Premier Division.
The club's success on the pitch is mirrored by our remarkable growth in fanbase and community support. From our inaugural season in 21/22, we have witnessed an astonishing 240% increase in home attendance, a testament to the exciting brand of football we deliver and the deep connections we forge with our incredible supporters.
Beyond the tangible victories, what I am most proud of is how the club stands out as a beacon of progress in women's football, challenging stereotypes and breaking barriers. As one of the few female-owned football clubs, our success resonates far beyond the pitch, inspiring a new generation of female athletes and administrators to dream big and shatter glass ceilings. I am also extremely proud of the fact our coaching team is 58% female, and the membership of our Board reflects a 50/50 split.
I have been immensely fortunate in my life to have been supported by so many people who have been enablers and helped shape my career. From parents and family who encouraged me to dream big and supported me wherever I wanted to go, to industry mentors and allies, such as Mark Howard, who helped me start WCWFC.
As we now enter our next phase of growth and development, I am delighted to welcome our new Board of Directors, who will bring a unique perspective and depth of expertise to help me take the club to the next level. Read more about them here.
