Worcester City Women FC Strengthens Coaching Team with Appointment of Lauren McMurchie

Lauren McMurchie with WCWFC Owner Nicole Allison

Worcester City Women FC welcomes experienced player/coach Lauren McMurchie as the club’s new First Team Coach alongside Matt Jones, Jen Anslow and Matt Tally on the coaching staff. McMurchie brings a wealth of experience both on and off the pitch to support WCWFC in the FA Women’s National League Division 1 Midlands.

The former Glasgow City FC and Nottingham Forest FC player moves away from her personal playing journey to support the growth of the women’s game from a coaching perspective in Worcester. Throughout her time as a Glasgow City FC player, Lauren was instrumental in the team’s unprecedented success during her 10 years with the club, winning the Scottish Women’s Premier League 10 times and the Scottish Cup 6 times. She also competed extensively in the UEFA Women’s Champions League from the age of 17. Alongside her playing career, Lauren holds a Masters in Sports Coaching, a BA Honours in Sports Studies, a Football Business Fundamentals qualification from the Johan Cruyff Institute, and a UEFA C License.

Nicole Allison, Owner of Worcester City Women FC, highlighted the significance of this appointment: "We’re pleased to welcome Lauren to the team. Her experience at the top level of women’s football, combined with her coaching qualifications and passion for developing female athletes, will help elevate our team as we embark on this new chapter. We’re committed to not only improving our on-field performance, but also supporting the holistic development of our players, and Lauren’s ethos aligns with our vision and mission as WCWFC.”

Matt Jones, Head Coach of Worcester City Women FC, added:
"Lauren’s track record speaks for itself. She has achieved so much as a player, and now, her ambition and expertise as a coach will be invaluable to us as we push for results in this new league. Her insights, particularly around injury prevention and athlete wellbeing, are a great addition to our coaching team."

Lauren McMurchie expressed her excitement about joining the club:
"I’m very pleased to be joining a female-owned club with great vision and values. I hope to bring my experience as a player into other aspects of the game and I look forward to supporting the players in all aspects of their journey.”

Worcester City Women FC continues with the club’s first season in the FA Women's National League Division One Midlands. The competitive league is a strong test for the newly promoted side with continuous learnings along the way. New developments and team members to the club are set to strengthen the infrastructure and ethos.
