Worcester City Women Reserves vs Halesowen Town Ladies

WCWFC 5 - 1 Halesowen Town Ladies

Worcester City Women’s Reserves ran out winners to league leaders in a thrilling 5-1 victory at home on Sunday afternoon. The team started the game strong from kick off with Lauren Smith scoring within the first 5 mins after latching onto a ball from City’s defence. The second goal was closely followed by a neat finish from Ruby Mayo after excellent link up play from Holly Rogers and Lauren Smith before Smith slipped a through ball into Mayo, who was rewarded for her efforts by slotting home to double City’s lead.

City continued their dominant start to the game after a third goal was added by Smith after excellent link up play down the right hand side between Ella May and Lottie Watson. Watson was able to pick Smith out who took a touch on the edge of the box before placing it in the corner of the goal to secure a comfortable start for the home team.

After the third goal Halesowen made some changes to the starting line up and were pressing high to get try and get back into the game. They were rewarded with their efforts after a half volley was hit and found the bottom left hand corner of City’s goal to make it 3-1. Despite Halesowen’s pressure, City’s back line held strong by winning their individual battles with Goalkeeper Becca Wood remaining clam and collected in possession with some excellent distribution.

After halftime City started strong with some excellent link up play through the thirds with some simple yet effective football. Tilly Pearson was linking the play nicely with Smith dropping into different pockets to create an overload. Halesowen still came out strong and with some direct football but were not able to break through City’s defence who displayed brilliant emergency defending. Despite an even balance to the second half Lottie Watson was able to get onto the score sheet after picking up the ball in the oppositions half and drove a low shot which defeated Halesowen’s goalkeeper to make it 4-1. The final goal of the game came from Mia Guinan on the right wing playing a ball into Ellie Roberts who remained composed going around the on-coming goalkeeper and slotting home to finish out a rampant performance by City.
