Worcester City Women FC Announce Matt Jones as New First Team Head Coach
Worcester City Women FC is thrilled to announce the appointment of Matt Jones as the new First Team Head Coach. Jones brings over 20 years of experience in football development, coaching, and coach education to the club, including several years dedicated to advancing women's football. His appointment marks a significant step forward as the club embarks on a new period as an FA National League club.
Matt Jones is no stranger to football development, with a distinguished 20+ year career in coaching. A graduate of the University of Worcester, Matt spent six years as Head Coach of the UoW Women's First Team, honing his skills and holds a UEFA A Licence. In his current role as an FA Coach Developer, Matt focuses on diversity and inclusion, bringing a unique and vital perspective to the club. His extensive background includes roles that span grassroots initiatives to elite performance environments, emphasising a holistic approach to player development.
Speaking of his arrival at WCWFC, Jones said: “It is an honour to take the Head Coach’s role at WCWFC, I am super excited to join a forward thinking, thriving club made up of great people.”
First Team coaching staff, Matt Tally and Jen Anslow will continue their invaluable roles with the First Team and continue their coach development alongside Jones. Jenna Lepore, who played a pivotal role in the First Team’s success in 23/24 season, is taking a period of time away from the grass to focus on other areas and remains part of the wider club.
